Types of Reports

Reports are an important part of the business world. Many major business decisions require written documentation. Business reports are used by management to make a decision.

There are few different kinds of reports:
  • periodic reports, where updates are given on a regular basis;
  • progress reports, where updates are given on a project;
  • problem-solving reports, where the report focus on a problem and a solution; and
  • informative reports, where the purpose of the report is to provide the reader with information.
When writing a report, you often need to use other sources of information that just your own brain. Sometimes, you might need to check an internet site, a book, or a magazine article to help support what you are trying to say in your report. You must give credit to the places that provided you with information. That credit is given by citations.
