Salmon in the Classroom
Salmon

As part of Earth Science, students will investigate a great number of natural resources. One resource we will spend the semester working with is Michigan's Chinook Salmon. Fulton Students will be working with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) to raise and release Chinook Salmon into one of our local tributaries. Students will monitor the overall water quality including; temperature, dissolved oxygen, nitrates, pH, phosphates, and a whole host of other characteristics within the salmon tank. This information will help students identify the local tributary that best suits the habitat needs of our classroom salmon. In May students will release the fish into the tributary deemed most suitable to continue their life cycle. Our classroom Salmon might possibly return to start a new generation of migratory Chinooks in our local streams.
